April 25-26
This past weekend saw teams continue to win games without being able to complete any passes. The Tangerine Dream had no QB, completed 11 passes (4 by PIERRE LEVASSEUR of all people) and put up 38 points! WTF is going on here? This was followed by the Mavericks putting the boots to the Giants 43-29. The Mavs QB attempted all of 20 passes in this game which still was better than the Giants QB who left in disgust midway through the 3rd after throwing a "Pick 6". Yup he took off his cleats and went home. This one is right up there with the classic from the original NDG (Oxford) League where one of the players got so upset he took his ball and left. Believe it or not no one else on either team had a ball and the game had to be post-poned...
Sunday saw the Mavericks push their roster to new limits while getting pummeled 34-14 by Sweep the Leg. StL is led by a QB who actually throws the ball! Rick Nincheri currently sits with more frickin' COMPLETIONS than everyone else has ATTEMPTs (other than Mike McNair). The weekend finale saw Norman Weekes try to recapture some of the Glory Days by bringing out Bruno P. to join him and Marco S. (all old M-G players). Unfortunately Norm no longer moves like he used and Nick Raymond sacked him 5 times...! 39-26 final for the Shenanigans in this one.
May 9-10
Our opening game of the weekend had the Dream, behind "playground legend" Imerio Amatucci (AKA Beers) take out the Way Outs. Guess there are a few doubts about it with this team. The biggest doubt revolves around the roster issues they've had. This would garner more interest if the Mavericks weren't setting new records each week with their "free agent of the week" signings!
Game 2 had the Shenanigans unload on the GMen 61-31 in the first game P.C. (post Chad). When Tony Kouric starts scoring rushing TDs it is time for the defence to call it a day.
Sunday had the Giants get into the Win column as the faced the Way Outs (who seem to be the ultimate cure for whatever ails your team). A 25-19 victory allowed the G-Men to keep their heads high on Sunday.
Since El Presidente Nutt is not QBing his own team he is quick to volunteer when others require aid. Fresh off his game winning "Post to the House TD catch" in the early game he felt ready to take on the Mavs. 43-18 later and reality set in...
May 23-24
A very busy week saw the G-Men open things up with a 20-13 victory over the Dream. The Dream "dusted off" veteran QB "Billy" Durocher in an attempt to shake things up. Unfortunately the dust was just too thick to penetrate, kind of like his accent when calling plays...zee in - zee out! or Solid Gold Left! I love Billy's huddle.
Probably the most entertaining game of the weekend saw the Shenanigans edge out Sweep the Leg 33-28. Defining moment came when Robert "even though I'm the president I CAN play the game" Campana stepped in front of a slant-in and returned it for 6 points.
The Mavericks and Way Outs faced off twice this weekend in the "Who can borrow more players" Bowl. Even with a few new bodies the Way Outs dropped both games to the Mavericks. The Mavericks seem to be morphing into the Chicago Bears as they scored more rushing TDs this weekend than passing TDs. BORING!!!
The last game was a high scoring one between Sweep the Leg and the Giants as several decades of experience lined up in the opposing Pivot roles. StL prevailed 48-31 but the real winner was the depanneur selling ice to the QBs after the game!
An off week ahead as the Moose Bowl looms. Please verify the schedule as it would appear that the Dream have decided to end their nightmare season prematurely and will not be attending the final weekend's festivities...
June 2
The Spring 2009 season approaches the end but for the Tangerine Dream, as one commentator put it when Vince Carter won the NBA Slam Dunk competition a few years back, "It's Over Baby...It's Over!"
The Dream have put an end to their nightmare season and have defaulted their two remaining games. Thus the schedule has been adjusted on there will be no games this Saturday with all of the action taking place on Sunday. A secondary result is that Sweep the Leg have had their regular season come to an end as well.
